When would you say no to a project and why what you know might be a reason

Let me ask you a quick question, would you reject a project these days if it came your way? I mean would you definitely say no to it? I guess not. But let’s assume this one time that you would. What would be your reasons for doing so?

Some of them might be obvious, I suppose. They would most likely revolve around clients not having any budget for the work. Or offering something else than money in return for your service. Others might include clients having unrealistic expectations over what they are getting for their money. Or their bad reputation, if they have one may play a significant role here as well.

Did you notice that they all involve a client? It seems that a client seems to always be in the center. I wonder though if there is any non-client related reason that would make you to say no to a project.

Designing for e-commerce #3: your home page and the user experience

Do something for me today.
Log in to the first e-commerce site you can think of. And once you are there ask yourself if you trust the site. Would you buy from it now if you had a cash to spend?

Of course you don’t have to do it exactly right now now but do it. It is important. Repeat this exercise with few other shops you can think of. Or even better, google for e-commerce sites you haven’t seen before and test them that way.

About the baseline myth and 3+ tutorials on how to use baseline on the web

baseDesigners love baseline.
I actually found this sentence amongst my notes the other day. It sounded true from the start yet still got me thinking. Yes, designers love baseline. It helps so much, doesn’t it?  It keeps copy organized, especially with multicolumn layouts.

There are probably countless examples of great grids where baseline plays important role and numerous books featuring great examples of them. I bet your library is full of those books.

When it comes to the web the situation is somewhat, well, … strange.
